Inclusive Activities at Palmer Park

At Palmer Park Leisure Centre and Stadium, we want everybody to feel included. That's why we've created a programme of a range of different activities to allow people from all walks of life, and with different abilities, to take part in sports and physical activity in an environment that suits and is catered to them. 

 

Our inclusive gym membership provides access to gym, swim and classes and costs just £25.00 per month. Additionally, if you'd rather pay as you go, sign up for our free Concessionary Card as this provides up to 50% discount on Pay & Play activites.

Swimming and Swimming Lessons

Inclusive Swimming

This is a bookable swimming session for anyone with a disability. This session has reduced numbers to provide a calmer atmosphere. Staff will be on hand to operate the Pool Pod for those who need support to access the pool. 

The pool is only 1.2m deep at the deep end, so it's well suited for those who may not be so confident in the water. Additionally, there will be no background music, to minimise noise and distraction. 

Carer's can accompany an individual for free.

SEND Swimming Lessons

SEND Swimming Lessons are classes suitable for Children with special educational needs and / or disabilities. These classes are smaller in size and therefore quieter. These classes have a ratio of 1 teacher to 5 Children.

Level Water Swimming Lessons

Level Water provides 1:1 swimming sessions for Children from 4 to 11 years old with a physical disability, visual impairment or hearing impairment. 

These specialist sessions are designed to give young people who can't currently swim or need more dedicated attention. The lessons are designed to build their water skills in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

You need to contact Level Water to be placed on their waiting list to access these sessions.

Gym Activities

SEND Gym

This SEND gym session is for anyone aged between 9years old and 18+ to come and workout in our quieter, programmable gym, on the first floor. The gym contains all the essential equipment for a complete all-round workout, including a mixture of cardio, resistance and strength machines.

Attendees under 16 are required to bring a support person/carer with them whilst attending their session, who can attend free of charge.

The sessions are on Wednesday afternoons betweem 12.30pm and 3pm. Booking is not required.

Please note: Our programmable gym has a four-step staircase between the cardiovascular level and weights level. 

Gym Sessions

Whether you are a first timer or regular user, the new gym at Palmer Park Leisure Centre and gym must be seen to be believed. Following a fantastic refurbishment, all areas have the most up-to-date Technogym equipment.

We have a selection of inclusive and accessible gym equipment at Palmer Park including:

SEND Soft Play Sessions

We offer designated sessions for those with Special Educational needs, that wish to attend during a time with fewer people around and a quieter environment, without music, to enjoy some family fun in our Soft Play. 

These sessions take place on Tuesdays 9am-11am and Thursdays 4pm-6pm.

Inclusive Cycling

*COMING SOON* A session that takes place on our outdoor velodrome, with our specially qualified coaches. They are casual, drop-in sessions, whereby participants get to use our specially adapted cycles to get cycling and feel the wind on their faces.
