Better Balance
The Better Balance program focuses on improving strength, balance, and confidence in older adults through adaptive movement exercises led by Falls Prevention Specialists. Based on the FaME model, it teaches techniques like the backward chaining method to help individuals safely get up from the floor and prevent falls. This reduces falls-related injuries and hospital visits, and improves the quality of life, helping participants live independently for longer. It also offers a social element, reducing isolation and boosting well-being.

Eileen's Healthwise Testimonial
“I was referred to Healthwise by my GP as I had tried to improve my fitness following cancer treatment with little success.
I had made some lifestyle changes but had got stuck and struggled with exercise that worked with my limitations. I became demotivated even trying and didn’t know where to start or what to do.
What would work this time?
What would I enjoy and not be a chore? I thought I’d tried everything. I wanted exercise that I enjoyed and would Improve my resilience and mobility in my later years.
Initially a telephone call with Sam lifted my spirits and planted a seed of optimism.
She was very encouraging and explained what was on offer and how the several health difficulties I had experienced would be considered in my fitness plan. I felt listened to and really believed this time I could improve as I would have expert guidance and supervision.
I realised I had not tried everything only everything I knew!
The goal for starters was to establish a sustainable planned exercise routine that I enjoyed and could stick to.
Six months later I’m still enthusiastic and enjoying the benefits of exercise.
I am stronger and more flexible than I have been for years. I feel more confident in my understanding of what activities work well and my energy levels have improved.
I continue to learn and am encouraged to keep going by Sam and Heidi and I’m exceeding my expectations. I feel more alert and motivated to continue despite setbacks. I will not give up completely and just do what I can do on the day.
A Big shout out and thank you to the Healthwise team and to Lisa the Tai Chi instructor for their patience, support and encouragement and to my fellow class participants who have made fitness fun
Next? Not being afraid to push myself and have a go…...you never know what you can achieve!!”
