Welwyn United Football Club come to King George V Playing Fields

Better, King George V Playing Fields are delighted to be the home ground of the vibrant, newly formed Welwyn United football club in Welwyn Garden City. The club is dedicated exclusively to girls and women of all ages. From players starting at six years old to adult walking football, the club offers a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

The club's mission is to provide a fun and safe space for females to develop their football skills and foster a love for the game. With a team of dedicated coaches and volunteers, Welwyn United ensures that every player feels supported and encouraged, regardless of their experience level.

Since its inception, the club has been making significant strides in promoting women's football in the community. The club has already attracted a diverse group of players and is continuously growing - actively seeking new players and sponsors to expand its reach and impact.

The club's first season has been a resounding success, beginning with a celebratory launch event at the start of the season attended by players and families. The sense of community and team spirit is noticeable, and the club is excited to continue building on this strong foundation. The club currently have 12 teams (over 220 players) actively competing in the Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League. Additionally, they have an Adult Ladies Team in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire women’s football league and an Adult Walking Football Team, which is competing in the Herts Women's Walking Football League.

One unique aspect of Welwyn United is its Youth Council. This council, composed of young players across all different age groups, meets regularly to make important decisions for the club, such as choosing a club nickname, organising awards for presentations, and designing player feedback forms. This involvement empowers young members and ensures that their voices are heard, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the club.
