To avoid disappointment, members and non-members should pre-book sessions in advance either via the Better UK app on the Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool page, or online here. Sessions can be booked up to 7 days in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, you are strongly advised to book in advance via the Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool page on the Better app or online. Walk-ins may be available at reception but a space cannot be guaranteed.

How long can I swim for?

Swim sessions at Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool are 50 minutes long. 

How many sessions can I book a day?

You can book multiple sessions a day at Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool. 

Can I bring umbrellas, deck chairs, snorkels, inflatables etc?

No umbrellas, please. Deckchairs are available to hire, subject to availability for £2. Snorkels can only be worn if for a medical reason (proof will be required).

Is there a café at the centre?

You'll find a kiosk open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm offering a range of light refreshments. 

What temperature is the water?

Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool is heated and, on average, the water is 25 degrees. 

Do the sessions still go ahead when it rains?

Yes, the pool only closes when it thunderstorms. 

Is there anywhere to change and leave my belongings?

Yes, you'll find male and female changing rooms with showers plus disabled changing rooms. Lockers are also available. 

How much are the lockers?

Lockers are available for your belongings. Please bring a £1 coin.

What does it cost to swim?

6 week season passes available:

Adult: £59.00

Junior & Senior: £37.50

Pay as you go available:

Adult: £ 59.95, Senior: £3.75 & Junior: £3.75

Can children swim?

Yes, children can attend Swim for All sessions (under 8s must be accompanied by a competent swimmer. A ratio of 1 adult to 2 children under 8 is in operation). 

What is the last entrance time?

The last entry is an hour before closing time. 

Can I hire towels?

Towel hire is not available at Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool. 

How can I claim lost property?

Lost property is kept for three weeks. If you have lost an item please email Abbeymeadows@gll.org

Do you have swimming hats, goggles to purchase?

You'll find some Speedo stock available at reception. 

Is parking available and if so, how much does it cost?

Parking is available in the pay and display car park a 2-minute walk from the centre, with further car parks a 5-minute walk. Payment is via cash, card or phone

Are changing rooms available?

You'll find dedicated male and female changing rooms with individual changing cubicles and showers. There is also a dedicated disabled changing room.

Do you hold gender specific sessions?

No, gender-specific swimming sessions are not available at Abbey Meadows Outdoor Pool.
