Rivermead Senior Activities
Rivermead Leisure Centre boasts an established senior programme, offering a welcoming environment for you to keep active and socialise.
Whether you bring a friend or come individually, Rivermead is the heart of a social senior network which welcomes everyone.
Senior memberships are available, enabling us to make fitness more accessible for everyone.
Senior Multi-Activity Sessions
Our Senior multi-activity sessions take place on a Monday and Friday 09:30 - 13:00.
These sessions include a mix of racket sports; short tennis, badminton and table tennis as well as board games! The new Rivermead Leisure Centre boasts a great cafe, so join in and socialise over a cup of tea or coffee whilst you're here!
These sessions cost just £5 and you drop in and out of the above activities. All our senior activity sessions are included in the Senior Membership so you dont have to worry. You can either take out a Centre Only Senior Membership (£25.50) or a Partnership Wide Senior Membership (£35.00) which gives access to all four of the leisure centres within Reading.
All our senior activity sessions are also all available through pay and play if you'd rather pick and choose your activities! Don't forget to check out whether you're eligible for a free Resident's Card or Concessionary Card to receive up to 50% off pay and play activities.
Racquets
We set up multiple different racket courts in our sports hall, including badminton, table tennis and short tennis, and we have enough rackets available for singles or doubles matches. All equipment is provided, and participants are of course, welcome to bring their own.
Easy Line
Rivermead Leisure centre has a section within its gym dedicated for Easyline equipment. This specialised equipment is build for comfort and ease using hydraulic resistance piston technology. Ideal for those who want simple equipment to target the main muscles of the body with no complicating set up. The Easyline equipment is available to use at anytime, as well as our structured session.
Supervised Gym
At Rivemead Leisure Centre, our gym is a relaxing setting where you have the helpful hand, of qualified gym instuctors. Monday and Friday mornings a gym instructor will be happy to help with anything you need, whether that is a greater understanding of the equipment to a friendly chat. Our aim is to create a social enviroment where you can train as a group or individually.
Senior Swim
Come and try our senior swim at Rivermead Leisure centre. The session allows you to come and use the pool, which is set out for comfort and simplicity to lane swim, whether swimming fast or more leisurely, Rivermead Leisure Centre accomodates.
Senior Lead - Jill Goodall
After having her two Children, Jill trained as a swimming teacher, lifeguard asessor, first aid instructor and a fitness and aquatics coach.
In 1988 when Rivermead opened Jill set up the Senior Club activities, running twice a week. Jill coordinates a range of activities, including racquet sports, aerobics and swimming. This friendly group now organise regular outings, holidays, racket competitions, friendly sessions with other clubs, quizzes, barn dances and an annual New Year Lunch.
Jill says: "I enjoy my job so much I'm still doing it to this day! I particularly enjoy meeting new people and helping them integrate into our club."
