‘Active April’ - Tuesday 1st April – Sunday 4th May 2025
To mark the 60th anniversary of the charity Carers UK, Dorking Sports Center are partnering with the organisation to offer a Free weekly Table Tennis and Badminton session during ‘Active April’.
Throughout ‘Active April’ - 1st April - 4th May - members of Carers UK or anyone who is in receipt of Carer’s Allowance will be able to take out membership at Better leisure centres at the discounted rate of £30 per month. This provides access to the gym, swimming, fitness classes and the health suite.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of keeping active and highlight the benefits of moving more. Research by Carers UK found that 67% of unpaid carers said that taking part in physical activity helped them feel more connected to other people.
Dorking Sports Centre will be offering a free weekly Table Tennis and Badminton session on Mondays 11.30am-12.30pm during April, giving all carers the opportunity to try out an activity at their local centre.
On the 7th of April 2025 at 11am we will be holding a Meet and Greet Welcome Session with our conceirge Jimmy, where you can come in and ask any questions you may have about the centre, activities, memberships. There will be Tea and Coffee available, so come and have a look around and enjoy our free session afterwards.
Peter Bundey, GLL’s Chief Executive, comments, “We recognise the vital role that carers undertake to support and improve the lives of others. As a charitable social enterprise that works across the UK to improve local communities, we recognise and value people who are providing key contributions to society and their local community. We therefore wanted to offer better wellbeing and health opportunities for carers and our partnership with Carers UK is fundamental to driving this ambition.”
Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, adds, “We’re really pleased to see GLL supporting Carers Active April 2025 with an offer encouraging carers to take up a free taster session and discounted memberships.
“Many carers find it hard to look after their own wellbeing when they’re caring for someone, but taking part in physical activity can have important health benefits - helping to decrease stress levels and connecting carers with others in their local community.”
