TENNIS AT THE MANCHESTER TENNIS AND FOOTBALL CENTRE
JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAMME
The Junior Tennis Programme has a development pathway for all players. From Tots Tennis for pre school children, through to Mini Tennis and full ball tennis; we offer lessons for beginners through to tournament players. At each level, players can move from development sessions to squad sessions, tailored to the players needs. These sessions are in smaller groups and are twice a week for the more committed and athletic players. The centre also incorporates a competition programme for all junior players throughout the year including team tennis opportunities.
Tots Tennis (3-5 years)
Introduction to tennis for 3 and 5 year olds. It is played on small courts with soft balls. Working on balance, awareness and hitting the ball over the net in some capacity.
Mini Tennis Red Course (5-8 years)
Mini Tennis Red is played on small courts with short rackets and soft balls. It’s just like the real game and gives players opportunities to have long rallies and play different types of shots.
Mini Tennis Orange Course (8-9 years)
Mini Tennis Orange is a great way for players to continue their progress. It is played with shorter rackets, softer balls and courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts allowing players to develop a rounded game whilst learning a range of techniques and tactics.
Mini Tennis Green Course (9-10 years)
Mini Tennis Green is a great way for players to continue their progress from Mini Tennis Orange. It is played on a full size tennis court, with bigger rackets and balls which are a little softer than yellow balls. It’s the next stage before moving on to full compression yellow balls on a full sized court and helps players develop and improve all aspects of their game.
Teen Tennis (11+ years)
These courses consist of coaching and coached match play, with an emphasis on fun.
ADULT TENNIS PROGRAMME
The Adult Tennis Programme is coached by LTA qualified Level 3 and 4 coaches. Players can progress through levels as their skills and experience increases.
Beginner: new to the game with no previous tennis experience wanting to learn the basics of playing tennis.
Improvers: some previous tennis experience. Players have ability to rally at a slow tempo and looking to improve their technical skills and tactical understanding.
Advanced: players have competition experience and can rally consistently at a high tempo, wanting to refine specific aspects of their game.
