Abraham Moss Leisure Centre became a first time venue for the Worlds biggest fundraising swimming challenge, Swimathon. Swimathon has been running for almost 40 years after starting in 1986. The purpose of Swimathon is to raise funds for charitable causes whilst promoting fitness and encouraging people of all ages and abilities to engage in swimming. The centre had slots available on Saturday 29th March and Sunday 30th March for swimmers to to set themselves a challenge and raise funds for charity partners, Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie

Swimmers were able to pick a challenge based on their individual swimming abilities including an individual triple 5km, a single 5km, 2.5km, 1.5km or 400m. With teams able to choose from a Tea, 5km or a Team 1.5km.

Across the two days, 31 individuals took part in Swimathon at Abraham Moss including;

  • 1 x Triple 5km (a big shout out to staff member Rebecca for completing this)
  • 11 x Individual 5kms
  • 3 x 2.5km
  • 4 x 1.5kms
  • 1 x 400m
  • 2 x 5km team challenges
  • 2 x 1.5km team challenge

A big thankyou to all the competitors, our volunteer customers, Anil and Craig, staff counters who helped across both days and event organiser Anna who pulled everything together for the event.

Donations are still coming in and we will be able to update once our final total comes in, however as of now our staff teams have so far raised a fantastic £515.00!
