Free Swimming for Manchester Over 60s

Did you know Manchester residents aged 60+ are eligible for free swimming? That's right! Registering for the MCRactive Pay as you Go card enables you to swim for free in swim for fitness, swim for all, swim for women and swim for senior sessions at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

To be eligible for this scheme, the card holder must live in the city of Manchester, paying council tax to Manchester City Council.

Senior Swimming

There are many health benefits for swimming including improved heart health, it's gentle on the joints, increases flexibility, muscle strength and tone and is a good booster for your mental health too!

At Manchester Aquatics Centre we run dedicated swim for 60+ sessions.

These sessions are included in the Better Health Senior membership and for Manchester residents aged 60+, these sessions are included as part of your free swimming access.

Aqua Aerobics

Aqua Aerobics classes are a great way to mix up a traditional gym workout with the wondrous benefits of water. It only takes a few sessions before you'll see a big difference in your overall fitness.

In our Aqua Aerobics classes, the water supports the body putting less stress on your joints and muscles and the impact of gravity is less in the water allowing a greater range of motion.

These sessions are included in the Better Health Senior membership and for Manchester residents aged 60+, these sessions are included as part of your free swimming access.

Basics Fitness Classes

We offer a range of low-impact and low-intensity fitness classes suitable for seniors and beginners. Classes include Yoga Basics, Pilates Basics, Legs Bums and Tums Basics and many others.

These classes are included in the Better Health Senior membership and for Manchester residents aged 60+, these sessions are included as part of your free swimming access.

Gym

We have three great gyms in which to work out in here at Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Regardless of your age, joining a gym can be an intimidating experience. Whether you’re unfamiliar with the equipment, you’re struggling with your confidence or if it's your first time you may have your reservations.

We want to make fitness accessible to everyone, meaning that removing anxiety around exercising is one of our top priorities. Our gyms are safe spaces to exercise with peace of mind and our fitness team will always be on hand to support you during your workout time.

Gym sessions are included in the Better Health Senior membership.
