East Manchester Leisure Centre is officially one of the country’s best, having achieved top scores in a leading industry scheme.

Managed by charitable social enterprise Better, on behalf of Manchester Active, the centre underwent a rigorous review, including a mystery visit by QUEST assessors, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.

The centre was scored as Excellent, an accolade that just 15% of UK leisure facilities achieve. To be accredited under the scheme, the centre's management team had to demonstrate excellence in operational practices and policies.  The evaluation focuses on customer care, facilities operation, staff development, community involvement, business planning and continuous service improvement.

Commenting on the assessment, Jackson Garner, Better’s Partnership Manager for GLL in Manchester said:

“The high score achieved by East Manchester is a fantastic reflection of the hard work and commitment shown by our staff. At Better we are committed to providing a top-class sports and leisure service to the local community and we hope that this fantastic result will encourage even more local residents to visit and see first-hand what fantastic facilities are on offer.”

Eamonn O'Rourke, Manchester Active CEO said:

'It's fantastic to see a second leisure centre within Manchester score excellent as part of a recent Quest assessment, the benchmark accreditation for the sector. This achievement demonstrates GLL’s understanding of the City’s commitment to maintain the highest standards and provide excellent service to the residents in Ancoats & Beswick and beyond. Hopefully, this will motivate more local people to move more and access this fantastic facility nestled in the heart of the community.'

QUEST is the leisure industry definition of good practice and high standards, recommended by the British Quality Foundation for Self-Assessment in Sport and Leisure Operations.

A huge well done to Zoe, Adrian and the whole team!
