International Women’s Day is a global day to celebrate the social, cultural and political achievements of women and reinforce a commitment to women’s equity and equality.

International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first International Women’s Day gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, International Women’s Day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

It is a big year for women’s sport with the England football team aiming to defend their European title in July. They beat Germany in the final at Wembley in 2022 and got to the World Cup final in 2023.

Also this year the English Rugby team will be trying to go one better than last time and lift the Rugby World Cup, with the competition taking place on home soil.
