World Medal for RBKC Ice Skaters
Kensington & Chelsea GLL Sport Foundation ice skaters Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson won Great Britain’s first figure skating World Championship medal in over 40 years when they clinched the bronze in Boston this weekend.
It is the first medal since Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean won their final global title in 1984 that British skaters have stood on a world podium in any discipline.
A score of 207.11 points ended that wait, having finished fourth at the previous two world championships.
“I can’t even describe my feeling, I’m in still shaking. I’m in disbelief,” said Fear.
While Gibson added: “It’s a dream come true.”
The pair who have been skating together since 2016, are three-time European medallists and earlier this season claimed Britain’s first ever medal at the Grand Prix final.
They are GLL Sport Foundation Ambassador athletes who have been part of the Foundation since 2017. They have always been proud to GSF athletes and have commented…
“We travel the world representing Great Britain, and maintaining training through the use of GLL facilities whenever we are in the U.K., is incredible. The GLL award has also helped us with competition costs. It is an honour to be a part of the GLL community.”
They will now have high hopes for the rest of the competitions this season and next year’s Winter Olympics.
Good luck from all at the GLL Sport Foundation.
