Free swimming is available for all under 18's and over 60's in London Borough of Hackney leisure centres. To gain access, users are required to have a valid Pay as you Go membership for the London Borough of Hackney leisure centres operated by Better.
The 25m Main Pool is 2m deep through out and has 8 lanes, perfect for fitness swimming and improving your wellbeing. The Main Pool includes a large specator gallery, diving blocks and a swiss timing system which can be used for galas and lessons. Slow, medium & fast lanes are always available*. The Main Pool is suitable for competant adult swimmers** aged 11+.
The 25m Teaching Pool has 6 lanes and includes a movable pool floor to adjust the depth of the pool from 0m to 2m, an ideal environment to learn to swim or to bring the whole family to swim.
The Toddler Pool is suitable for children aged 8 years and under and includes various water features including; mushrooms and water jets. A variety of toys and water aids are also provided to encouraging learning and play.

*Lanes of varying ability will be available at all times. Where possible at least one slow, medium and fast lane will be provided
**Due to the depth of the Main Pool, only competant swimmers, aged 11+, are permitted to swim (competant swimmers must be able to swim a minmum of 25m in a recognisable stroke)

Better’s adult swimming programme suits all your swimming needs. Whether you want to learn to swim, improve your technique or fitness or train for an event, our Swim Doctors will help you make the most of your time in the pool in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Sessions are free of charge to Better Health UK Members and there is a minimal charge of £3 for any other monthly or annual members. Alternatively, you can Pay as you Go for £10 per session. Bookable via the Better App, head to Book Swimming at your chosen centre to select your session.

We recognise that for some of our female customers swimming in a women’s only environment is their preferred way to exercise. That’s why we’ve committed to providing twice weekly women’s only sessions in our Training Pool. We have a variety of sessions including evenings and for those that struggle to attend in the evening because of childcare, we also offer a lunchtime session.

With our range of adult swimming classes for all swimming levels (beginners, improvers, beginners/improvers and coaching), we’ll get you to where you want to be – whether that’s learning to swim for the first time, training for an event by taking intensive swimming lessons, or improving your technique with our adult swim classes.
Our fitness experts and swim instructors can coach you in groups if you want to learn with a friend, or individually, and you’ll be surprised how easy and fun it is once you get started.
We understand that every person is different and has their own goals to achieve in the water. That’s why, at Better, we offer private 1-to-1 swimming lessons with a qualified swimming instructor at a leisure centre near you. Our expert instructors create and tailor bespoke swim plans to help you or your child hit their targets. 1-to-1 lessons are subject to availability. Pre Cleanse
Please help us to keep your pool clean by following our Swim Hygiene guidelines by showering and using the toilet facilities before you swim.
Respect
People of different standards and abilities will use the pool. Please respect their right to enjoy their swim.
Speed
Choose your lane using the fast, medium and slow signs and by watching those already swimming. Before pushing off at each turn, check to see if anyone faster is approaching.
Direction
Please follow the directional signs and move across to the appropriate side of the lane for each length.
Space
Try and leave at least 5 metres between yourself and another swimmer and if it’s possible to see a pace clock, then a 5 second gap is just as good.
Strokes
Wide stokes such as butterfly and breaststroke should be avoided when the lanes become busy. If you change to a slower stroke as part of your session, think about moving lanes.
Equipment
Fitness swimming training equipment, such as fins and hand paddles, is permitted at the discretion of the lifeguard and based on capacity. Snorkels can be used in conjunction with conventional swimming goggles.
Resting
Whether stopping for a rest or catching your breath after completing your swim, please be mindful that others using the lane will want to keep on swimming without stopping.
