On Court Efforts Lead to Off Court Success

Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub has been awarded Middlesex LTA Park Venue of the year for 2025 at the awards ceremony at London’s Queens Club.

This is a prestigious award to win considering the numbers of well-established park tennis sites in the county including Royal Park venues. It is also a great achievement to win AS Middlesex is one of the biggest and most successful playing counties in the UK.

Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub is proud to offer tennis for the whole community. There is a weekly coaching programme starting from mini red going through to adults. The park offers free tennis every Saturday with courts available during peak weekend tennis hours, through teaming up with Park Tennis. Any age and standard can come and play during this time for free every week, a hugely popular session within the local community.

The Sports Hub also takes tennis to the local community and to areas where tennis is not traditional played. Throughout 2024 the Sports Hub has sent coaches into local schools to help introduce tennis with taster sessions for primary school children. These roadshows have provided tennis for over 400 pupils, as well as this coaches have attended school fetes and open days giving more children the chance to participate.

The outreach programme doesn't stop there with weekly school sessions through the school year at a local primary school through working with charity Give It Your Max. Over 350 pupils at the school received five hours of tennis coaching at their school, they were also given the chance for to attend the tennis programme at the park for free and join at discounted rates.

Also the Sports Hub proved a Holidays Activities Camp for local children aged 6-11 years during the summer holiday. This camp was free and also provided participants with a healthy lunch.

For many these outreach gives local children their first experience of playing tennis and provides many opportunities for them to continue playing outside of their school.

The Park also offers free tennis throughout the year to mark events such as International Women's Day and Silver Sunday.

The team believe that Gunnersbury Park really does make tennis available for the whole community and helps to remove barriers which traditionally stop people from starting to and continue playing tennis. We are proud to have introduced the sport to so many local residents and will continue to do so for years to come.
