Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre recently played host to the ‘walking sports' segment of the annual Better Club Games, where over 700 participants over the age of 60 came together from across London to compete and connect through sport. The Club Games took place over two days at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the second event taking place at Copper Box Arena.

First starting in 2006, teams are recruited from customers involved in weekly activity programmes at their local sport and leisure venues to come together and compete for their Club Games team. These activities targeted at older adults encourage active ageing with benefits to physical health, mental health and helping reduce social isolation in the UK. The annual Club Games was delivered with a strong sense of competition but emphasised a fun and social atmosphere - with the addition of tea, coffee and a huge number of biscuits!

The walking competition saw over 200 competitors take part in Walking Football and Walking Netball with a new addition of a Pickleball showcase on the courts for 2024.
