The decision was made by the EuroHockey Board on 27 September 2024. This will be the first time since 2015 that the Championships take place in England, and the bid showcased the country’s excellent facilities, passionate supporters, and plans to grow the sport.
EuroHockey President Marcos Hofmann praised England's proposal, saying: “We believe England will provide a fantastic platform for top hockey talent to compete.”
The tournament is expected to attract thousands of visitors to England and boost hockey at all levels. Kath Russ, Chair of England Hockey, expressed her excitement, saying: “We’re thrilled to host the EuroHockey Championships 2027 and look forward to delivering an amazing experience for fans and players alike.”
Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, has a strong track record, having hosted major tournaments like the 2015 EuroHockey Championships and the 2018 Women’s World Cup.
Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: “This continues our legacy of hosting major international events since London 2012 and cements our role as the home of hockey in England.”
The semi finals and finals will feature the return of Big Stadium Hockey, which aims to bring in larger crowds, with plans for up to 15,000 fans at these key matches.
With support from UK Sport and funding from The National Lottery, Esther Britten, Head of Major Events at UK Sport, emphasised the importance of the event: “Hosting such major competitions showcases the UK’s ability to create memorable sporting moments that inspire communities.”
As we look forward to the EuroHockey Championships 2027, England Hockey is eager to work with EuroHockey, UK Sport, and other partners to make this tournament a fantastic experience for all. Save the date for an exciting summer in 2027!
