Western Leisure Centre wins the Walking Football tournament
Wednesday 12th March saw the first Better Walking Football tournament at Western Leisure Centre.
Four teams took part from Better Leisure Centres in Cardiff.
In a tightly fought contest Western took the ultimate overall title - ahead of Fairwater on the 2nd Llanishen on the 3rd and Eastern on the 4th.
Over 50 people including men and women were in attendance from Eastern, Fairwater, Llanishen and Western Leisure Centres.
These teams were coached by GP Referral and NHS instructors bringing together different communities from across the city to participate in this competition.
Competitors were drawn from the Active Leisure Scheme the activities chime with GLL’s mission to improve health and wellbeing as a key community service through physical activity and sport.
Participants all live with various health conditions so to be able to take part in this competition was a real confidence builder.
The "60+ Active Leisure Scheme" in Wales, funded by Sport Wales, aims to encourage physical activity, promote healthy lifestyles, reduce health inequalities, and combat social isolation among older adults, with the goal of helping them live longer, better, and happier lives.
A Cardiff team plan to now take part in the’ Better Club Games’ in Lee Valley on October 1st.
