What’s Pickleball I hear you say?
It’s the sport, which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, has been growing in popularity across the UK and the world in recent years. As the fastest growing sport in the USA between 2019 and 2021, Pickleball courts are springing up everywhere and giving people of all walks of life a fun new activity to get involved with.
As well as being a great sport to promote social interaction, Pickleball helps with hand-eye coordination, fitness, and neuromuscular coordination. The light ball and the small paddles can be easily handled by all participants and is much easier than other racket sports like Squash or Badminton if you are beginner.
Pickleball utilizes side-out scoring, meaning only the serving side may score a point. The serving team earns one point each time the non-serving team commits a fault. Neither team earns a point when the serving team commits a fault. Since the score is always called as the serving side's score followed by the receiving side's score, the two scores are reversed whenever a side-out occurs. For example, if a doubles team faults when the score is "five three two" (two indicating the second server), the other team becomes the new serving team, and the score is stated as "three five one".
Our New Adult Drop In sessions run on Monday’s 5.30pm – 6.30pm sessions are coached to help participants learn more about the sport, practice skills, get active, socialise and to facilitate games.
