WANDSWORTH YOUNG HISTORIAN 2024 CONTEST- NOW ON

CALLING ALL WANDSWORTH TEACHERS!
WANDSWORTH YOUNG HISTORIAN 2024 ENTER BY FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2024

As Wandsworth gets ready for its year as London Borough of Culture, we’d like to know who your pupils’ Wandsworth heroes are! Perhaps they are inspired by London’s first Black Mayor, John Archer; or the sporting achievements of Frank Bruno; or the writing of local authors like Joseph Coelho or Penelope Fitzgerald; or by acting greats like Margaret Rutherford, or perhaps someone we may not have heard of!
The Wandsworth Young Historian competition started as the Heritage Awards for Schools back in 2014. The competition aims to encourage Key Stage 2 children to explore and engage with their own local history in class and/or at home. In turn, we hope that this gives children a sense of belonging in their borough, however long it has been home for them and their family.

HOW TO ENTER:
Pupils should produce a poster or fact sheet either as homework or classwork telling us about their hero. Their hero must have a strong link to Wandsworth - either having lived or worked here. Only one entry per child should be submitted. Entrants should be in Key Stage 2.
Three prizes will be awarded, with each winning entry receiving £100 in Amazon vouchers for the participating school and £50 for themselves, and either a trampoline or ice skating session for their class. Awards will be presented at Wandsworth Town Hall with entries on display.

The Wandsworth History Awards for Schools is sponsored by Better, a charitable social enterprise who manage Wandsworth Libraries & Heritage Service.
