Annual Primary School Gala huge success
On Friday 14th March over 270 swimmers from twenty seven primary schools from across the London Borough of Lewisham arrived at Glass Mill Leisure Centre to compete in this year’s annual Lewisham Primary School Gala. The event was organised by Saxon Crown Swimming Club, supported by Lewisham Council and GLL, who provided pool space and staff free of charge.
Saxon Crown wishes to wholeheartedly thank all school swimmers, their teachers and parents who helped make it such an excellent afternoon of swimming.
All swimmers and teams gave excellent accounts of themselves, not just in their impressive swimming performances but also the support and camaraderie between teammates and between the various schools in attendance.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to those who placed first, second and third places in each individual event and in freestyle and medley relays.
Relay results were, as follows:
Freestyle – Gordonbrock first, coming home two seconds faster than second placed St Dunstan’s, Fairlawn coming a respectable third.
Medley – Again Gordonbrock coming home first with St Dunstan’s close behind and Holy Cross picking up bronze.
Best girl trophies were presented to Jessica Millot from Kilmorie (Year 5) and Annie Allen from St William of York (Year 6) and best boy trophies went to Ayodeji Dauda from St Dunstan’s (Year 5) and Thomas Atkinson from St Dunstan’s (Year 6).
In the best school category, third place went to Sydenham High Prep and second to Gordonbrock. Congratulations go to St Dunstan’s who came top and won the Shield for best school.
Overall the event was a massive success and lots of fun for all who swam as well as for their teachers and parents who cheered them on throughout the afternoon. We look forward to a repeat next year.
We’d like to thank not only those who competed and supported on the day, but Saxon Crown Swimming Club for organising and running this fantastic event. We look forward to hosting again in 2026.
