Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre Celebrates a Decade of Sporting Excellence

Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre marked its 10 year anniversary since reopening after the London 2012 Games with a vibrant celebration on Sunday. This milestone event highlighted the centre's enduring legacy and its contributions to community groups and sports clubs. 

Since 2014, Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre has become the home for major hockey events and a regional centre for all ability tennis, engaging individuals, families, universities and wider community groups alike! With our history of elite sports competitions, we hope this venue continues to inspire excellence.  

To date we’ve welcomed over 1.3 million visitors and over 46,000 people have participated in hockey or tennis sessions over the years. We’re also very proud to offer a robust Wheelchair Tennis programmewith our partners at Choice International and specialized sessions for older adults as part of an Olympic Legacy programme with Hackney Council and Lee Valley Regional Park Authority. The venue is a hub for local hockey teams and universities, regularly hosting prestigious events such as the London Youth Games, national Schools Cup finals, and the FIH Pro League. 

The anniversary celebration was a testament to the centre's vibrant community spirit. The day featured tournaments and "come and try" sessions, inviting new visitors to experience tennis and hockey first hand. Experienced coaches led engaging tennis sessions, while resident hockey clubs provided exhilarating hockey demonstrations. 

A highlight of the day was the tennis exhibition match, where the centre's coaches competed against each other, much to the delight of their regular students who cheered them on enthusiastically! Meanwhile, four local hockey teams showcased their skills in an exhibition that allowed the public to witness high-level hockey in action and appreciate the dynamic atmosphere of the venue. 

The event was a resounding success, supported by the dedicated staff and coaches whose energy and enthusiasm were evident throughout the day. Thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event memorable. Your support and participation are what continue to make the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre a thriving community asset.
