As part of Carers Active April - Better launches NEW Membership for Non-Paid Carers

In support of Active April, GLL has created a membership offer for members of Carers UK and anyone who is in receipt of Carer’s Allowance.

According to the last Census in 2011, 6.5 million people in the UK are providing unpaid care (Census 2011).

Carers UK estimates that the number of unpaid carers has risen to 10.6 million (Carers UK, Carers Week 2022 research report).

Throughout the country Better Leisure Centres are looking to provide carers with opportunities to become and stay active.

Our promotion will run between 1st April-14th May to sign up to the membership, the membership will then provide carers with anytime access to a Better leisure facility at the discounted rate of £30 per month.

This includes access to gym, swimming, fitness class classes and health suite. There are already a wide range of existing memberships available for people in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, including the Better Flex Adult Concessionary.

· Affordable activities and memberships

· Opportunities for regular physical activity

· Chance to meet new people, including other carers

Research by Carers UK found that 67% of unpaid carers said taking part in physical activity helped them feel more connected to other people. Carers Active April is all about making activity easier and supporting the UK’s 5.7 million unpaid carers to be more active.

So, we want to shout out to carers, to tell them that it is important to 'take time for themselves', to ensure they are looking after their own wellbeing. That, here at Cornwall's Better Centres we are wanting to welcome them, we want to provide them with positive experiences that will encourage them to focus on their health.
