Welcome to Bromley Home Library Service

This free service available for any resident of Bromley who are unable to reach and use their local library. Volunteers will visit you each month, having found out what your interests and tastes are. They will then bring selected items which can include, hardback, paperback, large print and talking books; books in different languages, music CDs, DVDs and any information you need. And there is always time for a good chat! 

Your personal connection to Bromley Libraries

Bromley Home Library Service is an initiative between Bromley Libraries and the Royal Voluntary Service. All RVS volunteers are trained and have current DBS checks.

Yes, you will need to be a you will need to be a resident of the London borough of Bromley to sign up for the home library service.
Is this service free?
Yes! Bromley borough's home library service is funded by Bromley council. 
How do I know if I qualify for help from the Bromley Home Library Service?

How does it work?
After you've been approved for assistance, volunteers will visit you each month having found out what your interests and tastes are. 
They will then bring selected items which can include, hardback, paperback, large print and talking books; books in different languages, music CDs, DVDs and any information you need.
How do I contact a home library service representative?
To directly communicate with a Home library service representative, you have two options.

• Call 07929742252 between the hours of 9am to 5pm on weekdays.
• Email bromley.hls@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk

If you need other help with the service as a whole, please get in contact with your local library.
How do I return books from the home library service?
When the volunteer visits to bring your new books, they will take your returns and discharge them from your account at their local branch library. If you want to keep your existing books a bit longer, don't worry! They're happy to renew them too. 
What if I haven’t finished all my books by the time my volunteer is due to visit?
You can let your volunteer know, and hang on to the book for one more month.  They will renew the book for you.
Can I request specific titles?
Yes! you can ask your volunteer to reserve specific titles for you.
Can my volunteer help me access digital library content?
If you are unable to get to the library, we have volunteers who can visit you at your home and help you access Libby eBooks and eAudio via a smartphone, tablet, or computer.  For Kindle this only works on Kindle Fire devices, not the e-readers.
